My creative board where I pin in & out!

Hi my friends! Lately, I’ve been wondering what name I could give to this first collection. I have too many ideas and I need to make up my mind! Indeed, I want to use poems and proverbs to accompany this collection. Ho god! You have no idea how excited I am! In fact, I believe the primary reason for this excitement and is due to the fact, that this is my very first real collection. To help me, I put together a notebook and an inspirational board. Every day I’ve pinned images, materials, accessories and objects of all kinds. Of course, the more I’ve experimented and advanced with my ideas, the more my inspirational board changes. These changes are due either to the wrong combination of materials or colors. I admit, it’s getting a little frustrating, but hey, it’s a choice I made. I leave you with some images of my inspirational ideas and I’ll see you again with what’s next.

Salut mes amis! Ces derniers temps, je me suis demandée quel nom je pourrais donner à cette première collection. Les idées sont trop nombreuses et il faut que je me décide! Effectivement, je souhaite employer des poèmes et des proverbes pour accompagner la collection. Holà là! Vous n’avez pas idée comme j’en suis excitée! En fait, je crois la raison première de cette excitation et reliée par le fait que c’est ma toute première vraie collection. Pour m’aider, j’ai monté un cahier et un tableau d’inspiration. Chaque jour, j’ai épinglé des images, des matières, des accessoires et des objets de toute sorte. Bien sûr, plus j’expérimente et j’avance avec mes idées, plus mon tableau d’inspiration change. Ces changements sont dû soit par les mauvaises combinaisons de matières ou de couleurs. J’avoue, que cela devient un peu frustrant, mais bon, c’est un choix que j’ai fait. Je vous laisse avec quelques images de mes idées d’inspirations et je vous revois avec la suite.

Happy Sunday! This beautiful sofa in this photo is very interesting, don’t you think? I found it by chance in a thrift shop for a great deal. The technique used for this sofa is basketry: who is by that way, the most ancient craft technique. For over a decade now, basketry is experiencing a revival among the craft community. You have to take a look at one of my PINTEREST pages to prove that. Basketry is the weaving of vegetable fibers, not spun, usually shaped containers or bottles. We learned, by archaeologists, with radiocarbon dating, that the first baskets are 10,000 or 12 000 years old at Fayum, Faiyum or El Faiyūm in the High Egypt. Just as the weavers do tables in tapestry, the basket of today creates sculptures. All cushions were made by me. I intend to learn the technique… maybe next summer? I will see, and it will all depend on my schedule of the time…for now have a good week my friends!

Bon dimanche! Ce magnifique canapé sur cette photos est très intéressante, ne trouvez-vous pas? Je l’ai déniché  par chance dans une friperie à très bon cou. La technique employée pour ce canapé est la vannerie : qui est soit dit en passant, la plus ancienne technique artisanale. Elle connaît, depuis une décennie, un renouveau chez les artisans. Vous n’avez qu’à jeter un coup d’œil sur une de mes pages PINTEREST pour en avoir la preuve. La vannerie est le tissage de fibres végétales non filés, généralement en forme de contenant ou de récipient. On apprend, par des archéologues, grâce à la datation au radiocarbone, que les premiers paniers datent de 10 000 ou 12 000 ans à Fayoum, dite EL Fayoum, dans la Haute-Égypte. Tout comme les tisserands font des tableaux en tapisserie, les vanniers d’aujourd’hui créent des sculptures. Tous les coussins ont été confectionné par moi. Je compte apprendre la technique…peut-être au cours de l’été prochain? Je verrai et cela dépendra mon calendrier du temps…d’ici-là, passez une bonne semaine mes amis!

Here’s Pae!

Good evening to you all! Here she is and may I present to you Pae my first handmade BJD! I spent a whole afternoon taking photos. Speaking of photos, the photo session was exhausting! Due to a lack of natural light, the sun light, which in the end gave me a headache. Of course, several photos were simply removed. Regarding Pae, she stands 50 cm tall (20 inches), her eyes are handmade with Swarovski Crystal cabochons and her suit is hand painted.  In the coming weeks, I’ll make several posts on the theme of love and since Valentine’s is almost upon us… this falls well don’t you think?

Bonsoir à tous! La vois-ci et je vous la présente Pae ma toute première BJD! J’ai passé tout un après-midi à prendre des photos. Parlant de photos, la session de photos fut épuisante! Le fait de manquer de lumière naturelle, la lumière du soleil, m’a donné à la fin un mal de tête. Évidement, plusieurs photos ont été tout simplement supprimées. En ce qui concerne de Pae, elle fait 50 cm de haut (20 pouces), ses yeux sont faits main avec de cabochons de Crystal Swarovski et son tailleur est peint à la main.  Au cours de prochains semaines, je ferai plusieurs posts sur le thème de l’amour et puisque la St-Valentin est à nos portes…cela tombe bien vous ne trouvez pas?

Sewing time!

After a weekend making fittings and adjustments, it was sewing time! I love making patterns, but sewing is something close to my heart, since I started in the garment industry as a seamstress and did it for nearly 7 years! But, the very first time I touched a sewing machine I was thirteen and in High School. I had three projects to make : a small pencil case, a pair of boxers and jogging pants. I still have the jogging pants, the pair of boxers was given to one of my cousins and as for the small pencil case…well simply, it got lost over the years!

Après un week-end à effectuer des raccords et des ajustements, il était le temps de coudre! J’adore faire des patrons, mais la couture est quelque chose que je tiens à cœur, puisque j’ai débuté dans l’industrie du vêtement comme couturière pendant près de 7 ans ! Mais, la toute première fois que j’ai touché une machine à coudre, j’avais treize ans et j’étais au secondaire. J’ai eu trois projets à faire: un petit étui à crayon, une paire de boxeurs et un pantalon de jogging. J’ai encore le pantalon de jogging, la paire de boxeurs a été donnée à l’un de mes cousins et en ce qui concerne du petit étui à crayon… Eh bien, je l’ai tout simplement perdu au fil des ans!

I am almost done with Manon’s outfit and during this past weekend it was fitting time! I was very happy on how it turned out: only one fitting for the skirt! Since Manon’s fashion design is a continuity of my previous (Adele) doll’s outfit, the design process was an easy one. I love the folkloric pattern of that fabric, since it’s uplifting and reflects happiness. More details on tomorrow’s post!

J’ai presque terminée avec la tenue de Manon. Au cours de ce dernier week-end, c’était le temps des essayages! Je très heureuse des résultats : il n’y a eu qu’un seul  ajustement pour la jupe! L’accoutrement de Manon est une continuité du vêtement de ma dernière poupée (Adèle). Donc,  le processus de conception a été facile. J’adore le modèle folklorique de ce tissu, puisqu’elle reflète le bonheur. Plus de détails sur le post de demain!

Hello doll lovers! In case some of you didn’t read the news, 4 days ago, I decided to stop my studies in Design Textile, due to personal issues.  While cleaning up some of my various student works, I had mix feeling about several of my textile projects, some of them looked messy. However, it was the best way for me to experiment with different paints and mediums and to know them better. I don’t know what you think, but on my part, I can’t wait to take a few textile workshops during next winter semester.

PS: You have probably noticed that my previous post was both written in English and French. Well, since French is my main language, all my future posts will be in both languages. Thank you lovely people for your understanding.

Bonjour les amoureux de la poupée! Dans le cas où certains d’entre vous n’aurait pas lu les nouvelles, il y a 4 jours, j’ai décidé d’arrêter mes études en Design Textile, en raison de problèmes personnels.  En révisant une partie de mes divers travaux d’étudiant, j’ai eu un drôle  de sentiment  face à certains de mes projets en textile, certains d’entre eux avaient l’air bizarre. Cependant, pour moi, c’était la meilleure façon d’expérimenter  les médiums et les différentes peintures et  de mieux les connaître. Je ne sais pas ce que vous pensez, mais pour ma part, j’ai hâte  de prendre quelques ateliers de textile au cours de la prochaine session d’hiver. 

 PS : Vous avez sans doute remarqué que mon précédent post a été écrit en anglais et en Français. Eh bien, puisque le Français est ma langue principale, tous mes prochains post seront  dorénavant écrits dans les deux langues. Merci mes charmants amis de votre compréhension.

A farewell for now in Textile…

Due to factors beyond and out of my control, I will not be able to pursue my studies in the field of textile design. Although, I am sincerely disappointed and sadden by this situation, I will continue to have a positive and optimistic outlook for the future, and intend to fall back on my previous (fashion) studies to continue working on my fashion art dolls. On a positive note, in the coming semesters, I will be taking several seminars and workshops (textiles, ceramics…) at the College, University or private levels. As these courses develop, I will post them on my blog site. To finish, I leave you with a few pictures of various projects that I completed during my textile design courses. Thanks to you all.

En raison de facteurs au-delà et hors de mon contrôle, je ne serai pas en mesure de poursuivre mes études dans le domaine du design textile. Même si, j’en suis sincèrement déçue et attristée par cette situation, je vois l’avenir de façon positive et continuerai de manière optimiste. J’ai l’intention de faire un survole sur mes études antérieures en mode et de continuer à travailler sur mes poupées modes. Sur une autre note positive, j’ai la grande intention, dans les prochains semestres, de  prendre plusieurs séminaires et ateliers (textile, céramique…), au Collège, Université ou niveaux privés. Lorsque que ces cours seront entamés, je posterai quelques photos sur mon blog. Pour terminer, je vous laisse avec quelques photos de divers projets effectués lors de mon cours en design textile. Hello everyone! Here is a sneak preview of Adele’s design outfit! I like the way the patterns turned out and I feel the same way for the colors. Since I am studying in textile design, I am able to make this print myself, but my schedule is way too full and since I bought this fabric a long time ago…I think it was the right time to make something nice with it. Don’t be surprise if you see this fabric in another doll design outfit or for future projects…Oops! Did I just say future projects? The answer is yes, but I can’t speak about it for now. More photos will be posted shortly  during the week.

Second and third fitting!

Good evening! I’m happy tonight, because after a second and a third fitting, Adele’s outfit is almost done. I was not satisfied with the first fitting: the tunic dress was too short and too tight around the thighs. On the second fitting the hemline was too loose and more corrections needed to be done on the sleeves. I spend a full day making pattern corrections and sewing for the third fitting and all I can tell you, things are looking good! I will come to you with more updates.

Hi everyone! What a beautiful week we had in Montreal: it was sunny and hot! Though, I’ve been working a lot these last two weeks, I did take a few moments to enjoy it during my breaks. Speaking of work, last weekend Adele’s outfit was in the making! I love the entire process on making a garment: sketching, pattern making, molding, making a few corrections and sewing. I know for some of you, the process may sound a bit daunting and even annoying, especially when you have to start the process all over again! But, if you are a perfectionist like me, you don’t count hours of work, you just do it because you simply love the challenge of it! For this outfit, which is a simple tunic dress, I had to make three fittings to get exactly what I wanted and it turned out great. You will get a sneak preview of it in a future post!
