This is Ava and it bodes well, although I would have preferred to shape her head during the day light. But for lack of time, do to my day job, I didn’t have the choice to complete her head at night. Each time, it’s the same story: I turned on my lamps to the max in order to realize and develop all of the details. With Ava, I wanted to create an exotic face with a natural and flawless complexion.

Voici Ava et cela augure bien, quoique j’aurais préférée modeler sa tête le jour. Mais faute de temps, du à mon quart de travail de jour, je n’ai pas eu le choix de réaliser sa tête le soir. À chaque fois, c’est la même histoire : j’allume au  maximum tous mes lampes afin de réaliser et de finaliser les détails. Avec Ava, je voulais créer un visage exotique avec un teint impeccable et naturel.

Hello! In tonight’s post, I present to you the work in progress of Ava, my newest beauty! Ava is a continuation of my technical progression in the world of BJD dolls (Ball Jointed Doll). But, this time, I wanted her to be slightly larger and more athletic, and for that, I had to cheat during the design of the torso. So, with the help of images and photos, Ava will have a long and slender torso. Besides, the head and the hands, the torso is one of the body parts that is the most crucial to sculpt, since it is has a major part in the final outcome of the aesthetics of the doll. I will come back to you in a few days, with more details on the work in progress of Ava. See you soon!

Allô! Pour la publication de ce soir, Je vous présente ce soir le travail en progression d’Ava, ma toute nouvelle beauté! Ava est une continuité de ma progression technique dans le monde de la poupée BJD (Ball Jointed Doll). Mais, cette fois-ci, je voulais une poupée légèrement plus grande et plus athlétique et pour cela, j’ai dû tricher lors de la conception du torse. Donc, avec l’aide d’image et de photos, Ava aura un torse long et élancé. En dehors, de la tête et des mains, le torse est une des parties du corps les plus crucial à sculpter, puisque qu’il est un élément majeur du résultat final de l’esthétisme de la poupée. Je vous reviendrai, dans quelques jours, avec d’autres détails sur le travail en progression d’Ava. A bientôt!

Nia’s look book video

Hello to you all! I have just finished Nia’s look book video! This video finally concludes my journey in making her. I enjoyed making her and I have learned so much with her. I feel more comfortable with what it takes in making a handmade BDJ (Ball Joint Doll) and I am still learning. I really want to improve  these techniques for future dolls. Bonjour à tous! Je viens tout juste de terminer la vidéo de Nia! Cette vidéo conclue finalement mon aventure avec elle. J’ai aimé la créer, et avec elle, j’ai appris énormément. Je me sens de plus en plus à l’aise à réaliser des poupées BJD fait main et je continue d’apprendre. Je veux réellement  améliorer mes techniques pour les prochaines poupées. Hello my friends! Before I leave on vacation, look at what I received: a book entirely devoted to the BJD (Ball Jointed Doll), but only created by independent artists. Several of them have opted for porcelain as raw material, others resin, but also, as I have seen, many artists choose both. This beautiful book is written by Nathalie Cortinovis a teacher who lives in France and who is passionate about everything related to beauty, crafts, Art deco and of course dolls.

This bilingual book (French and English), gives a brief overview of doll history throughout the ages, but mainly focuses on the phenomenon of the BJD doll. More than 40 talented artists are described, including the unique Marina Bychkova, Ekaterina & Elena Popovy, Rafael Nuri and many others. I, who follow the doll industry for nearly fourteen years now, I have seen the evolution of this phenomenon which originated in Japan by Volks company and who has set the industry standard in terms of the BJD dolls sizes.

However, I must admit that many artists are absent in this book and it is a shame, because many of them are talented and have style which doesn’t fail! Who knows, they might just be added in a second edition of the book? Here are some of them and their link. Good viewing and I will see you soon!

Bonsoir mes amis! Avant que je parte en vacances, regardez ce que j’ai reçu : un livre entièrement consacré à la poupée BJD (Ball Jointed Doll), mais uniquement créé par des artistes indépendants. Plusieurs d’entre eux ont opté pour la porcelaine comme matériel brut, d’autres la résine, mais aussi, comme j’ai pu le constater, nombreux artistes choisissent les deux.

Ce magnifique livre est écrit par Nathalie Cortinovis une enseignant qui vit en France et qui est une passionnée de tout ce qui touche la beauté, l’artisanat, l’Art déco et bien sûr les poupées. Ce livre bilingue (français et anglais), fait un bref survol sur l’histoire de la poupée à travers les époques, mais met l’accent surtout sur le phénomène de la poupée BJD. Plus d’une quarantaine d’artistes de grand talent y sont décrit, dont l’unique Marina Bychkova, Ekaterina & Elena Popovy, Rafael Nuri et bien d’autres. Moi, qui suit l’industrie de la poupée depuis près de quatorze ans, je vu l’évolution de ce phénomène qui a pris naissance au Japon par la compagnie Volks et qui a établi les standards de l’industrie en termes des grandeurs des poupées BJD.

Toutefois, j’avoue que plusieurs artistes sont absents dans ce livre et c’est dommage, car le talent et le style ne manque pas! Ils seront peut-être ajoutés lors d’une seconde édition du livre, qui c’est? En voici quelques-uns et leur lien. Bon visionnement et à bientôt!

Two weeks off…for vacation time!

Outfit in the making…

Hello everyone! I have advanced with Nia’s outfit…but a few modifications were done! Due to a lack of fabric, I had to give up on the idea of making a jacket for her and replaced it with a simple mohair pull-over. It is sad, I would I have preferred making the jacket: since this was my initial choice! To bad, it will be for a next time!

Allo tout le monde! Je me suis avancée avec l’accoutrement de Nia…mais quelques modifications ont été apporté. Par manque de tissu, j’ai du oublié la confection de la veste et elle est remplacée par un simple gilet de mohair. C’est dommage, j’aurais bien aimé faire la veste: c’était mon choix initial! Mais bon, cela sera pour une prochaine fois!
