Yet another one would you like? I can’t help but find that my passion for books allows me to find several little surprises. Several years ago, I bought this wonder at a thrift store. This book (guide) specialized in the art of the handmade dates from the 70s and is now essential to me. Everything is there. It ranges from pottery art, cooking, tapestry, how to work with wood, basic screen printing, weaving, and so on! A real gift from the sky. There’s nothing better than spending hours in a thrift store and stumbling upon unexpected items. All you need is patience and openness. 😊

Encore un autre voulez-vous? Je ne peux m’empêcher, ma passion pour les livres me permet de dénicher plusieurs petites surprises. Il y a plusieurs années, j’ai acheté cette merveille dans une friperie. Ce livre (guide) spécialisé dans l’art du fait main date des années 70 et m’est dorénavant indispensable. Tout y est. Cela va de l’art de poterie, de la cuisine, de la tapisserie, comment travailler avec le bois, la sérigraphie de base, le tissage, et j’en passe! Un vrai cadeau tombé du ciel. Il n’y a rien de mieux de passé des heures dans une friperie et de tomber sur des objets inattendus. Il suffit de la patience et de l’ouverture. 😊

Fashion Encyclopedia

We came to the last part on the book publications that inspire me the most. This time, it’s the encyclopedias. With a constantly changing world, these books often require updates. I came across this set of dictionaries dedicated to the fashion and clothing industry two years ago. I loved it right away. Practical guides that are easy to carry and place in a library. The images are clear and the explanations simple and effective. All these affordable books are sold at Amazon or directly on the Fashionary.com website 

Nous sommes venues à la dernière partie sur les publications de livres qui m’inspirent le plus. Cette fois-ci, ce sont les encyclopédies. Avec un monde en constante évolution, ces livres requièrent souvent des mises à jour. Je suis tombée sur cet ensemble de dictionnaire dédié à l’industrie de la mode et du vêtement, il y deux ans. J’ai tout de suite adoré. Des guides pratiques, faciles à transporter et à placer dans une bibliothèque. Les images sont claires et les explications simples et efficaces. Tous ces livres abordables sont vendus chez Amazon ou directement sur le site internet de Fashionary.com

Let’s talk about books for the next three posts, shall we? For my part, I’ve been wanting to do it for some time. A good way to show you guys what’s inspires and influences me. Other than my interest in making dolls, I am a lover of reading, but also books of all kinds: adventure novels, visual books, photographs, fashion designers/fashion houses/costumes, textiles, crafts and even comics. It’s an interest that has fascinated me since my youth and that hasn’t faded over the years. Indeed, it has only grown.  I would like to share my passion for books, especially those that help me better develop my creative ideas. Let’s get started.

Textile books from all over the world are my favorite. The history of the textile fiber, from weaving and dyeing, is the most interesting. It allows us to better understand the influence of certain peoples on the whole world (clothing, hairstyles, make-up, furniture, visual art, architecture and the art of decoration). The textile books that fascinate me the most are those from Africa, the Americas, Central and South Asia. But, I have a passion for everything that comes from India. There is nothing like Indian textiles, in my eyes, it represents dreams, passion and history. I think of silk, Paisley patterns, ostrich leaves, intricate embroidery and beadwork. Oh! I forgot, the importance of color in the rich Indian culture. In fact, all the textile books you see have one thing in common: the regional textile heritage of each region that makes them proud. If you are interested in these books, most of them have been sourced from Amazon. 😊

Dolls throughout history

Good evening to you all! In recent weeks, I got the idea to gather all my books, magazines and other documents on the history of dolls throughout history and wanted to share them with you. The work was a bit difficult, but also exciting! I think, in my humble opinion, it is important to understand the arrival of dolls in history, but also the fascinating relationship between humans and dolls. You will understand that my next posts will focus on this topic throughout the month of October. I intend to explain the story of dolls in three blocks: The history of dolls through the ages, the fashion dolls and to complete, dolls created by artists. The first post will begin next Monday. Bonsoir à tous! Au cours des dernières semaines, j’ai eu l’idée de rassembler tous mes livres, revues et d’autres documents sur l’histoire de la poupée à travers le temps et de les partager avec vous. Le travail fut un peu ardu, mais aussi excitant! Je crois, à mon humble avis, qu’il est important de comprendre l’arrivée de la poupée au cours de l’histoire, mais aussi de la relation fascinante qui existe entre l’être humain et cette dernière.  Vous aurez compris que mes prochains posts porteront sur le sujet tout au long du mois d’octobre. Je compte d’expliquer l’histoire la poupée en trois blocs: L’histoire de la poupée à travers les âges, la poupée mode et pour terminer la poupée d’artiste. Le premier post débutera Lundi prochain. Hello my friends! Before I leave on vacation, look at what I received: a book entirely devoted to the BJD (Ball Jointed Doll), but only created by independent artists. Several of them have opted for porcelain as raw material, others resin, but also, as I have seen, many artists choose both. This beautiful book is written by Nathalie Cortinovis a teacher who lives in France and who is passionate about everything related to beauty, crafts, Art deco and of course dolls.

This bilingual book (French and English), gives a brief overview of doll history throughout the ages, but mainly focuses on the phenomenon of the BJD doll. More than 40 talented artists are described, including the unique Marina Bychkova, Ekaterina & Elena Popovy, Rafael Nuri and many others. I, who follow the doll industry for nearly fourteen years now, I have seen the evolution of this phenomenon which originated in Japan by Volks company and who has set the industry standard in terms of the BJD dolls sizes.

However, I must admit that many artists are absent in this book and it is a shame, because many of them are talented and have style which doesn’t fail! Who knows, they might just be added in a second edition of the book? Here are some of them and their link. Good viewing and I will see you soon!

Bonsoir mes amis! Avant que je parte en vacances, regardez ce que j’ai reçu : un livre entièrement consacré à la poupée BJD (Ball Jointed Doll), mais uniquement créé par des artistes indépendants. Plusieurs d’entre eux ont opté pour la porcelaine comme matériel brut, d’autres la résine, mais aussi, comme j’ai pu le constater, nombreux artistes choisissent les deux.

Ce magnifique livre est écrit par Nathalie Cortinovis une enseignant qui vit en France et qui est une passionnée de tout ce qui touche la beauté, l’artisanat, l’Art déco et bien sûr les poupées. Ce livre bilingue (français et anglais), fait un bref survol sur l’histoire de la poupée à travers les époques, mais met l’accent surtout sur le phénomène de la poupée BJD. Plus d’une quarantaine d’artistes de grand talent y sont décrit, dont l’unique Marina Bychkova, Ekaterina & Elena Popovy, Rafael Nuri et bien d’autres. Moi, qui suit l’industrie de la poupée depuis près de quatorze ans, je vu l’évolution de ce phénomène qui a pris naissance au Japon par la compagnie Volks et qui a établi les standards de l’industrie en termes des grandeurs des poupées BJD.

Toutefois, j’avoue que plusieurs artistes sont absents dans ce livre et c’est dommage, car le talent et le style ne manque pas! Ils seront peut-être ajoutés lors d’une seconde édition du livre, qui c’est? En voici quelques-uns et leur lien. Bon visionnement et à bientôt!
