Two new heads

AMG DOLL-2017 (3)

I finished my two heads, I still have the eye lashes to affix and I’m done with them. I intend to make a wig for each doll and take several photos. If there is one thing I like, in what I do, it is to take pictures. I try, if possible, to take pictures of every step of my work and then evaluate and auto critic them. I look at the good and the bad shots and I take a lot of notes on what I see. I often ask my boyfriend’s point of view, his way to analyze and critic helps me a lot to improve my artwork. We “artists” sometimes have this feeling of over-protecting our artwork, but over time, I noticed that attitude is useless and shows a form of insecurity. In short, let loose and enjoy the most as possible the good shots and enjoy each moment as it comes.

They come alive!

Here is a brief overview of the heads that I’m working on. I like what I see, but I would have preferred a much better lighting and more particularly the natural light which is in my opinion the best! Well! I must leave you and absolutely get back to work and complete these two heads!

My moment of preparation

DSC04605

Each artist has a unique way of working and that suits him or her and I am no exception. I like structure, organization and preparation. Over the years, I developed a working method that allows me to be effective, especially when it comes time to paint a doll. This working method has become sort of a ritual. My work surface is divided as follows: my paints and mediums are on the left, my brushes and sponges on the right and in the center, a mirror and the doll that is ready to be transformed. The atmosphere in which I work must be somewhat “quiet”, well lit and airy. But music is a must: I can’t live without it! It allows me to dream, visualize better my creative tastes… and even to invent my own stories! I avoid all drinks or food in my work area: in my opinion, it’s dangerous and unprofessional. Everything must be in its place and I try as much as possible, although I find it sometimes difficult, to use what I need to work with.

Agnès on day light!

Good evening! On Last night’s post, I introduced you to my lovely Agnès, once painted, but her pictures were taken during the night. However, this time, I present her to you on a natural day light, were all photos were taken during a hot summer day afternoon, last year! Enjoy!

Agnès Painted!

*WARNING! SOME NUDITY IS FEATURED ON THIS POST. PARENTAL GUIDANCE IS REQUIRED.

Hello! On tonight’s post, I’m continuing with Agnès painting and blushing. Painting dark skin tones can be an uneasy task, especially with the blushing part. To resolve this problem, I had to equip myself with tons pictures of beautiful and various women of color. In order to offer an authentic and respectful work and I needed to learn how to make beautiful blushing for the shadow aspect and believe me, that didn’t come over night! It came with a lot of trials and errors! One of them was to create the exact color blushing for the doll… It was a nice try, but once acrylic paints dries, it gets darker and that is why now, I ALWAYS make sure to make a few tests first! Another thing that I have learned over the years, is to always use a color wheel. The color wheel helps me to understand the relationship between colors, especially when it makes an equilateral triangle to find the two other colors. You see, each color has 3 colors between them to form a triangle with different tints (white), shades (gray) and shadows (black). Anyways, regardless of some painting imperfections, this doll was a bless to paint!

Rachelle part 2

Hello everyone! For tonight post, I present the second and last part of Rachelle fully painted and blushed. As you have may notice, Rachelle’s body is more athletic and toned, which I really do like. In real life, I love variety though my aesthetic do not change that much.

Brielle part 3

Hi everyone! Finally it’s Friday and time to present the final part of Brielle’s photos. On these photos, she looks darker than before I put her in the oven and that’s normal since polymer clay tends to go darker once baked. Meanwhile, I did this on purpose, I used professional acrylic paints that has high pigments, Liquitex. These paints have a smooth, creamy and a beautiful satin finish. Once both Brielle and Iris where finished, I was hooked with the final results. Enjoy!

Best regards
