My last ceramic project part 3

Good Sunday to you all! I am finishing the month of April with the third and final part of my last ceramic project simply called ‘fairy tree ‘. In this photo, you only see parts of Bisque firing, since the lack of time forced me to pass over the glaze firing final step. This glazing step, in my humble opinion, is the most important one, since it gives life to the ceramic pieces and that, by the meticulous choice of pigments and colors. I intend to take other ceramics courses to be able to complete these two sculptures and to perform other small wonders… Before I leave you, for those who are interested, the French version of the page, REASONS BEHIND ART DOLLS is now available. In the meantime, I wish you a good week and I’ll see you in a future post.

Bon dimanche à tous ! Je termine le mois d’avril avec la troisième et dernière partie de mon dernier projet en céramique et que j’ai intitulé tout simplement « l’arbre féerique ». Sur cette photo, vous ne voyez que les pièces un fois biscuitées, puisque le manque de temps m’obligeait d’oublier la cuisson pour le vernissage. Cette cuisson (vernissage), à mon humble avis, est la plus importante, puisque elle donne vie à la pièce et cela, par le choix méticuleux des pigments et des couleurs. Je compte prendre d’autres cours de céramique pour terminer ces deux pièces et de réaliser d’autres petites merveilles…Avant de vous quitter, pour ceux et celles que cela intéresse, la version française de la page, LES RAISONS DERRIÈRE LES POUPÉES D’ART , est maintenant disponible. Good evening to all of you! Tonight, I continue with my last ceramic project that I made a few months ago. To be honest, shaping and sculpting these two vases was quite a challenge: each one was heavy and difficult to handle. The Raku clay, before bisque firing, is heavy because of the water that is in it, once it is out of the packaging. However, working with this clay is very nice, despite the small pellets, it is soft to the touch, mellow and easy to handle. When I start a project, I like to test and develop techniques and my notebooks of drawings are my best allies! Each idea, good or bad, is carefully compiled in one of my sketch books and you never know where an idea could go…

Bonsoir à tous ! Ce soir, je continue avec mon dernier projet de céramique que j’ai aimé réaliser il y a quelques mois. Pour être honnête, modeler et sculpter ces deux vases a été tout un défi : chacune était lourde et difficile à manipuler. La pâte Raku avant la cuisson biscuit est pesante à cause de l’eau qu’elle possède une fois dés-emballée. Toutefois, travailler avec cette pâte est très agréable, malgré les petits granules, elle douce, moelleuse et facile à manipuler. Lorsque que je commence un projet, j’aime tester et développer des techniques et mes carnets de dessins sont mes meilleurs alliés ! Chaque idée bonne ou mauvaise sont compilés soigneusement dans un de mes carnets à esquisse, on ne sait jamais où une idée pourrait allée…

Hello! I want to share with you guys my last ceramic project. This project was created four months ago and I did not have the time to finish it…and now I finally did it. The project was to create a decorative object and big enough, over a foot high. Since I love textures, fantasy and nature, I choose to create something related to faeries. I imagine that faeries are born in threes , nice idea don’t you think? I will come up with more pictures in a few days.

Allo ! J’aimerais partager avec vous mon dernier projet en céramique. Ce projet a été créée il y a plus de quatre mois déjà et par faute de temps, je n’avais pas pu le terminer… et maintenant je le terminé ! Le but du projet était de réaliser un objet décoratif assez grand, soit de 30 cm de haut et puisque que j’aime les textures, le fantastique et la nature, j’ai choisi pour thème les fées. J’ai imaginé que les fées étaient nées dans les arbres, quelle belle idée vous ne trouvez pas ? Je reviendrai d’ici quelques jours avec d’autres photos.

 

 

 

 

Testing textures & colors

RAKU clay before bisque firing

Happy Sunday to you all! A few weeks ago, I was able to finally shape and explore a few textures with the RAKU clay. Subsequently, after a week of waiting, I was able to test the paint (pigment) with the glaze. Pigments should be handled with care: wearing a mask and gloves are necessary! What was my astonishment and If I can say my disappointment! Several colors did not release the same color after baking and even the varnish was not as bright and lustrous as expected! But hey… as I said, I’m here to learn and explore. In addition, before I complete piece, I need do many tests, and then make a final choice in texture and color.  I will get back to you this coming week with other images on ceramic. See you soon!

Bon dimanche à tous! Il y a quelques semaines, j’ai pu finalement modeler et explorer quelques textures avec la pâte RAKU. Par la suite, après une semaine d’attente, j’ai pu tester la peinture (pigment) avec la glaçure. Les pigments doivent-être manipulés avec soins : le port d’un masque et de gants sont nécessaires! Quel fut mon étonnement et je dirais même, ma déception! Plusieurs couleurs n’ont pas sorti la même couleur après la cuisson et même le vernis n’était pas aussi brillant et lustré! Mais bon…je me suis dite, je suis là pour apprendre et explorer. De plus, avant d’entamer une pièce complète, il me faut faire de nombreux tests, puis faire un choix final en matière de texture et de couleur.  Je vous reviendrai cette semaine avec d’autres images sur la céramique et à bientôt!

My first ceramic creation

As I promised, on tonight’s post, I present you my first creations in ceramics. I started with small pieces. At first, I knew I had to draw what I wanted as a first work. Initially, I had the idea of creating a soap set for the bathroom, and then I changed my mind as soon as I started to mold. I had the choice between the RAKU clay and porcelain clay. I opted for the RAKU, since I didn’t feel ready for the porcelain clay. RAKU shrinks 10% after the bisque firing. This clay is a gray color before firing and turns an ultra pale pink afterwards. With the RAKU clay, I explored different textures: Snake, striped, lace, etc.  I intend to use these techniques in the development of textile prints for my future fashion doll creations… Other images on my ceramics classes will be posted on my blog tomorrow!

Comme promis, je vous présente mes premières créations en céramique. J’ai commencé avec de petites pièces. Des le départ, je savais que je devais dessiner ce que je voulais comme premier ouvrage. Au début, j’avais l’idée de créer un ensemble de savon pour la toilette, puis j’ai changé d’idée dès que j’ai commencé à modeler. J’avais le choix entre la pâte RAKU ou la porcelaine. J’ai opté pour la RAKU. Je ne me sentais pas prête pour la porcelaine. La pâte RAKU rétrécie de 10% après la cuisson dite biscuit et passe de la couleur grise à un rose ultra pâle. Avec la pâte RAKU, j’ai pu explorer différentes textures : serpent, zébrée, dentelle, etc.  Je compte utiliser ces techniques dans l’élaboration d’imprimés textiles pour de futures créations modes pour mes poupées…D’autres images sur mes cours de céramique seront diffusées sur mon blog, demain!
